Just A Dog

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog,"
or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog."

They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."

Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog,"
but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog,"
and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog"
gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand
phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."

"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust,
and pure unbridled joy.

"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

Because of "just a dog", I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog"
but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future,
the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away
from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog",
but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being
"just a man or woman."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog"
just smile...
because they "just don't understand."

Some of you might have read the above before... while for some others many many times before. I've read it many times. But i still go back and read it.

Each morning, before i start my work, usually i'll browse through some of your sites. I've made quite a lot of  dog and cat friends these past months in the bloggieworld. So many that sometimes, i find it hard to visit all of you in a day. There are always some of my favourites and there's this one dog in France which i always love to visit and to read about his life and his daily adventures.

His smiles brings a silly grin to my face while i am enjoying my coffee. He has the most joyful face. His stories told by his beloved owner are most entertaining. His PONderings are most endearing.

I only know what a PON means after i stumbled upon Wilf's blog. A PON is a Polski Owczarek Nizinny, Polish for Polish Lowland Sheepdog. Before that, a PON to me is just a sound that a horn makes.

Wilf is my favourite PON. He is sick now. Reading about him brings tears to my eyes. Yes.. its just a dog. Why am i crying over a dog. And its not even a dog that i know personally. Its just a dog that i read about on bloggieland.

You will understand if you have a dog and you love your dog as much as he/she loves you.

The Power of the Paw is most needed now for Wilf. Reach out to him at Wilf the PON and send him some love.

Don't feel bad, I get attached to all my kitty and doggie friends in the blogger world. I cried all day when Sniffle had to go to the bridge and I felt so silly. You get to know these animals through the blogs. Take care and have a great day.

I love the essay about "Just a dog" it's so true.
Poor Wilf, I hate to hear about another blogger being sick whether it's human, canine or feline. Duke and I will send our regards.

Wilf has been on my mind a lot since I read about him getting sick. I really hope that he's going to be alright, especially after Digby passed away so recently.

Puddles mum here...
I know absolutely how you feel. I remember when Digby passed away and Maxdog, and Molly...I cried. I didn't know them but I loved them and felt for their families. We have this bond with these bloggers because of the love of our own dogs and it is so easy to put yourself in their shoes. It is difficult but we have such a wonderful support system through eachother.
Wonderful post!

Allison

Thank you so much for thinking of us. The poem is very beautiful. As you know we're just enjoying the moments that are left in as muddy and jaffa cake rich way as possible.

Only someone who doesn't own a dog would say 'it's just a dog' ...

I'll drop by and check Wilf out in a bit.

We might not know them personally.. but we feel for their loved ones.. and that is normal human nature. But we do know them as we know you... as we follow your daily adventures.

I am glad that we have an incredible band of bloggers that have stuck together and gave each other comfort in times of need. The power of the paws is indeed real.

Thank you for your kind words Allison :)
