From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.
Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie--
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.
When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find--it's your own affair--
But...you've given your heart for a dog to tear.
When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!);
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone--wherever it goes--for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart for the dog to tear.
We've sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve:
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long--
So why in Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?
~ Rudyard Kipling

This happens especially when the dog is left alone. Away from the human companions or their other dog friends. They could feel nervous and fear.
Sometimes it happens because we allow them to be too used to our presense and let them follow us around like our shadow. It boils down to how much we spoil our dog(s). When we are home, we give them our undivided attention. That of course tells them that our world revolves around them.
When they are used to our presense, they will be at a loss when we go out for long hours. Or when we leave them at a boarding house for a few days. They will feel sad and fear that maybe you don't want them anymore. And maybe you have just dumped them.
This happens to Dom.
I just realised that my world revolves around him and his around me. He adores me. He follows me like a shadow... even when i am just going out from my room to get a drink in the kitchen. When i go out to buy something, he expects me to take him along. Sometimes i do and on the times that i don't, he shows me the saddest face and that kinda melts my heart.
Being a work-at-home staff doesn't help. He sees me every single day and every single hour. He will start to bite his legs when he does not see me for hours. Sometimes when i go out to get some stuffs, i'll come home to find one of my socks or teeshirt in his doggie bed with him. I think that makes him feel secure.
I think its not really healthy for him. What do i do? Do i just let him be? Cos it is a nice feeling to be feeling so loved. But to self-mutilate his feet is not good thing.
Now that Piper is back for 2 weeks, i hope maybe he'll be back into his bratpack and back to his barking sessions with Piper and running about in the garden. Both of them did have a helluva good time barking today at all the strange things/people that passes by my house.
Hopefully its just a passing phase.

Looking forward to your pictures :) You can send pics of your pet(s).. any pets.. be it a spider or a rabbit or an iguana...or even a snake :) CU next Thursday.
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker 's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.'
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, 'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good Life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?' The Six-year-old continued, 'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.'
I believe its true too. We are here on earth for a purpose. And we are to learn all that we have to learn before we go home. As humans, we get side-tracked along the way and sometimes fill our hearts with a lot of rage. We are only allowed home when we have learnt our lessons and repent.
Doggies on the other hand have hearts of gold. Their hearts are mighty big and will forgive and forget. They give love unconditionally. They give all the time with no ill intentions or ask for anything in return. Maybe just a pat on the head or a hug or maybe just a bit of playtime with you. I think i'll be a dog in my next life, if there's such a choice :D
Thanks again Div! For sharing the story with me.
I think these kind of things do run in the mind of doggies all the time. (IF only i could read Dom and Piper's mind.. i would have much to learn from them)
When dogs meet up at a park or while you are walking them, they always sniff each others rear out. It is the standard procedure.
Most of the time, we'll probably pull our dog away feeling embarrassed if it is a stranger's dog. Or telling our dog no no noooo.. don't do that.
Do you know why they sniff each other's rear out?
The dog's nose is his strongest weapon. They used it to check out the pancake you are making, check out the mailman, check out where you went by sniffing/checking you out when you come back, check the garden. Their nose is a most wonderful thing. And most of all, dogs sniff the rear of another dog, to better understand the other dog.
A sniff of the rear tells a doggie all sorta of things, including what the other dog likes to eat, its general health, and if a female doggie is pregnant. They sniff each other too to check if the other doggie is friendly and safe to play with or they will retreat.
Dommy just likes to take one deep sniff of you when you come back. One sniff and he knows it all. Piper on the other hand, is like a custom officer. Each time you come home, he'll check you for the longest time. If he smells another doggie on you, he might sniff us longer.
Its like what humans do when we meet each other. We shake our hands, doggies sniff each other's rear :D
** Do check out Sidney Harris works! His cartoons are wonderful :) The books would make a great christmas gift for your loved ones.
The rain is good most of the time, cos it keeps this house cool. Else it would be like an oven in the afternoon heat. But i still like to lie on the grass even when its very hot. Yes sir reee... a good roll in the grass does wonders to a dog's soul. But lately... i am not allowed too many rolls in the garden as i've developed the itch which got me bald and cold and wearing that pirate blue tee. Now i am over that and i am a beeyooooootiful dog again. :D
Anny's been real busy today. One of her soldier's is down and out. Probably will be down for a while. She'll have more late nights... and more panda eyes after this.
When Anny's busy, i don't get to go for my walks (and they left my leash in PP's house). Sometimes i go to grandpa to cheer him up but he's most of the time quite happy just singing away on the computer with youtube oldies blaring away... while playing Spider Solitaire. But sometimes when grandpa is having his snacks, he is very generous as he always shares his snacks with me :D That's of course is a + point in a doggie's life.
Once in a while i go sneak in to check on GG but he's always studying. Sometimes he does not even know i exist. Most of the time i am standing outside his door, his eyes are on his books and occationally looking at his handphone. He does not see me wagging my tail at him. And when he does notice me, sometimes he gives me a very sad look and seem to say... i am busy, i can't play with you. But occationally he does gives me a tap on my head... and i know he loves me but he loves his books more.
And today... the garden is wet... i didn't get to go out to pee so often. Thank god the rain let out a bit at 11pm and Anny and i went to the garden. I took a leak.. and it was a mighty big leak... and *phew* my bladder's not so tight anymore. *phew*
Anny told me just now that PP's coming home this week... and staying with us for a week.. or mebbe two.. or three. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee... PP's coming back Something to look forward to. Back to the good ole days of sharing food *ahem* and running up and down the house and barking at all the other dogs. I am glad my brother is coming home :D
Seems that PP's mommy is going for a trip.
And guess what... when i came back to our room, i found a treat on my bed. Anny says i've been a very good boy today for holding my pee :D
They do love me after all. I was just ranting just now.
Eu te amo.
I made it as 1st commentator in Emila's web and the good woman that she is.. she posted my sleepy face pic on her site. I am still new to this 1st commentator thingy. Goodnite folks + furfriends,
Thursday is "Friday Eve" in anticipation for the end of the work week (in most places in the world)
Thursday's child has far to go ~
Thursday sounds kinda like thirsty
Thursday is a day... for you and me
and so... let us begin to Capture our Thursdays!
Come back here again and i'll tell you more ;p
In the meantime, think i'll take my powernap first :D
Watch This. Do your part for poverty and spread the word around.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.
Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
Take naps and stretch before rising.
Run, romp and play daily.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit closeby and nuzzle them gently.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entirebody.
No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout... run right back and make friends.
Bond with your pack.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Roti tissue is sometimes coated with sweet substances, like sugar and Kaya (jam). It is now a delicious dessert.
