Today is my friend Chewy's 2nd Barkday.

Holaaaaaaaaa... we are finally home from our roadtrip and festivities. The festivities are still ongoing until the 15th day of Chinese New Year. That's the normal number of days that some chinese celebrates. 

We are back at home working furiously since Monday. A week of laziness and bumming around causes an avalanche of emails when we came back. Work piles up like pancakes but work surely don't taste just as good :)

Our apologies for not coming by to visit all of you yet. We manage some of you... we are coming around slowly but surely.

We had a feast on the eve of Chinese New Year in one of the chinese restaurants in town. No one wanted/dared to cook this homecoming feast. So we opted to eat out. Mom used to do all the cooking for Homecoming dinner. But being lesser cooks, my sisters and i did not dare take on this gargantuan task (we were also lazy buggers).

Yee sang

The dish above is called Yeesang and its like a Prosperity Toss. The family will gather around the table each with their chopsticks and just toss the contents causing a major spill on the table and all around while saying all good wishes for the year. The dish contains raw salmon, shreaded vegetables, condiments and some sweet sauces. After all the tossing, we eat it.

Another Yee sang. This was much nicer as the raw fish was not too thick.

Dom was gambling along with us but he could not keep his eyes open in the wee hours of the morning. 

Gambling is one of the things we do during Chinese New Year. It runs in my family for a very long time. Usually we play black jack. From the youngest to the oldest, we are all gamblers (only on Chinese New Year).

Our friends from the backlane were so hungry when we got home. One of them gave me quite an earful and complained non-stop. *LOL* After a big meal, he finally settled down and snooze. These cats from the backlane are quite hardy. They are able to take care of themselves when we go away. But they always come back to eat when we return.

That's some of the pictures we got. Most are taken with the mobile as i've become quite lazy to lug out the camera :) We have families coming back this weekend. It will be a busy weekend for all of us here. My dad will be celebrating his 70th birthday too. We have 3 birthdays this weekend. All his siblings are coming home. Mr Piper will be home too.

The weather here is getting pretty warm. The Chinese New Year heat has finally arrived. Send me some snow Booker!

Summer Holiday

Summer Holiday ~ Cliff Richard

"We are going on a summer holiday.. no more working for a week or two. Fun and laughter on a summer holiday. No more worries for me or you for a week or two. We are going where the sun shines brightly.. we are going where the sea is blueeeeeeeeee...."  

Cliff Richard. My eldest sis was such a big fan of Cliff Richard. Was and still is. She used to sing his songs over and over and over again when we were kids. She went nuts when she saw/hear him sing. *LOL* I still see a sparkle in her eyes when she hears Cliff Richard over the radio today. Summer Holiday is the song from my childhood. We used to sing it in the car when my parents took us for roadtrips. We used to go for many roadtrips way back then.

My dad is humming this song quite happily now. He is having his headphones on in the hall and singing quite loudly :) Maybe he is getting pretty excited and happy that we will be going off for a short roadtrip this weekend. We are going off to see Anne and to some beaches and finally to stuff ourselves silly with food. Hawker food :D Yum yum...

We have summer all year round here in Malaysia. We melt especially on a February when we get intense warm weather. Staying under the shower seems like the best thing to do in February.. and even now. I probably shouldn't complain so much about the lack of rain. In some parts of the world, rain is creating much havoc.

No Rest for the Wicked

12:16am... on a Tuesday morning :) It is nice to be home.

We came home finally (dad, Dommy, Piper and i) last monday. We have been away from home since Jaiboo left in March. It seems like quite a long time ago. We did make short trips back home for a day or two and left again for Kuala Lumpur.

Actually it was suppose to be just a 2 weeks stay at my sister's house while i help Boy settled in to college. But it became a 2 and a half months stay away from home. Good thing we have great relatives who have been looking out for this ole house.

During our 2 and a half months away,

1. Boy went into Taylor's for further studies
2. Piper got neutered and woozy for almost a week
3. Dom went for 2 grooming sessions with Tiffany
4. Boy got out from Taylors and went for matriculation
5. Dom and Piper moved to the pet hotel for almost a week
6. Dommy got sick
7. Roadtrips to visit Boy in another state
8. The three of us going for holiday
9. Seeing many sleeping koalas
10. ... some wallabies which i thought were kangaroos wannabes
11. Being pecked by some birds
12. People telling me that kangaroos cannot "gostan" 
13. Fairy penguins can go blind if you flash your cameras at them
14. Vietnamese takeaway food are nice
15. Forgetting to put Frontline for Dommy and now he's itchy
16. Jaiboo can dance now
17. Water is expensive in Aus
18. Mum getting less candles lit while we were away
19. Homes become like a sandy beach if you leave them too long
20. but Home is the most comfortable place on earth :)

Its kinda like a whirlwind 2 months being away. I have many thoughts in my head which i need to purge it out soon.. hehhehehee.. No good keeping too many things inside. My memory slips day by day. Time is always being selfish.

Hopefully this blog will be my memory keeper.

Ahhh... Aini coming to help me tomorrow. I have missed her. I better knock off now else i cannot be up in time for her.

All About Billy

Billy is a steam train and one of the finest preserved steam railways in the world. It still runs on its original track from Belgrave to Gembrook through the Dandenong Ranges.

Puffing Billy is operated by volunteers. We had a chance to be on the Puffing Billy last week. Billy sure was a whole lot of fun.

Our ride took us from Belgrave up to Menzie's Creek. It was a wonderful experience to be on an old steam train in an older railway station run by wonderful volunteers. If you are in Melbourne, don't forget to lookup Billy.

The Tiny Contest

My Precious Cargo

Cobwebs.. hehehehe.. I see cobwebs here. Updating this site seems to have taken a backseat lately :)

I have been

• busy (not quite a good excuse)
• lazy (sounds more like it)

A nomad's life is more apt. Lately we have been travelling up down quite a bit. Just when things are more settled, we have to up and go again. Things won't be much settled anyways. That's the fun part of life. If it gets too settled, i'll probably be bored to death.

In a week or so, Boy is moving to another state to start his studies in a college. Just when he has started making new friends and getting settled in his new surroundings here, he has to change and move to another state again. *LOL* Well.. that is part and parcel of life. Change is always good. We should always embrace change with an open heart.

3 years ago, i uprooted and moved back home to be with dad and Boy. Taking care of them as best i could or know how. It was quite an experience and a teenage kid does teach you loads of things.. hahhahahaa.. I tried to be more of a friend to him than to nag the life out of him. But waking him up in the morning to get to school was a chore. He could probably sleep through the loudest alarm clock. Even with 10 alarm clocks, i doubt he'll even hear one of them ringing.

Both Boy and i plus Dommy went back home last weekend to check on our home in Ipoh. The whole house was still intact. hehehehe The whole garden was quite a disaster.. hahahahhaa Overgrown grass, lot of leaves on the ground and dandelions which was lovely in a way. The rain has kept the garden nicely watered and most of the plants survived.

Short papaya tree. This is a short papaya tree.. which fruits quite fast. We'll have some ripe ones to eat on our next trip home :)

My jatrophas are still thriving. This is a pretty hardy plant. The future of biodiesel production? Maybe... :)

These are supposed to be catnips.. *LOL* But i had some papays seeds in the pots. I guess the papayas override the catnips in the pots. This is what happens when you don't have green fingers.

We went to the church to see mom. Poor mom haven't had a candle lit for her for weeks. The really nice old florist at the church had yellow orchids for us. He only charges peanuts for a bunch. It was nice to be home. To the familiar surroundings. To the quaint life of Ipoh.

On our way back to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday evening, it rained and rained. At one point, it rained so hard that i couldn't very well see the car in front of me. I really hate driving in the rain. Especially when i have precious cargo.

The storms can be pretty vicious. In my heart, i was going.. should i stop or should i go on ahead. With fear (yes.. i am a scardy cat), i moved on. I know my mom will keep me safe and get me to my destination.

In life, we will encounter many storms. Storms as in problems or storms as in the storm itself. If we keep on going and moving ahead, the storm will ease eventually.

Why this song to kickstart the year? I got my head burrowed in a few books at a time these few days.. *LOL* and this was one of it.

I kinda seek my moments at Borders for 2 whole days... *LOL* I love Borders.. especially the one at Curve. Most of the time, i am actually at the children's section. They have more colourful books and with lotta glitter and better pictures.

A lot kinda happened in the past 2 weeks or more while we were away. Some losses some gains.. some happy moments.. some tense.. mostly quite a tiring one. I came home more broken that ever. My head kinda feel detached from my body. Tired as a log but... i'm all slept out now :)

We should all just understand that we are all unique. Different. If everyone could understand that, it wouldn't be a tense holiday at some point. But.. with all the tense moments, we did have some happy ones too. Well.. holiday's all gone. Back to the daily grind.

Before i scoot off again, i would like to thank Nessa, Emila and Yoon See for their beautiful greeting cards :) Thanks again for the very cute stuffs! I will treasure them.

I'll continue with a long windy post tomorrow... mebbe.

On The Road

We are finally going on the road today :) Hopefully great weather and smooth ride to take us safely to our destination. We wish everyone and all our friends here a Merry Berry Berry Christmas and A Wooonderful Woofy New Year!

An Encounter At Fort Cornwallis

Fort Cornwallis is an old star-shaped fort located on the northeastern coast of Penang, Malaysia. It is named after the late 18th century Governor-General of Bengal, India, Charles Cornwallis, 1st Marquess Cornwallis. Fort Cornwallis is the largest standing fort in Malaysia. (info from Wikipedia)

Or so we thought.. hahahhahaa.. the entrance was on the other side... We were both melting and poofed after walking quite a distance to find that we are at the wrong entrance *LOL*

But this gateway was pretty cool looking :)

We decided its too hot at 3pm to walk to the other entrance.. :p so we left it and return to the car which was quite a distance when its super hot and hazey... hehhehehehe In our heads, we were screaming for cold super cold coconut water :D

This looks like a cell. When a tourist suddenly came into the window on the other side, both of us kinda got spooked. *LOL*

Ahh... and this was my special encounter at Fort Cornwallis :) Nice lil doggie basking in the sun on a bed of grass... he/she looked contented. The great guardian of Fort Cornwallis.

A Whole Lotta Poo

I call this my special Poo Book. Its a lovely red and is a gift from a loved one. Its still wrapped in plastic. Haven't written anything on it yet. Just want to keep it like this for a while. It should be filled soon.

Why Poo Book?

This book is made from 75% elephant dung and paddy paper. Don't worry. It doesn't even smell :) Its perfected in Sri Lanka from Maximus.

There is a bigger story behind this book. Maximus is the BBC World Challenge 2006 Winner.

Its also about conservation and saving the Elephas Maximus. Hopefully this “Elephant Dung” paper will help to provide a sustainable environment for man and elephant for a long time. Both will in sing in harmony and a beautiful relationship will co-exist.

Variations in the elephant’s diet, age and dental state give each batch of paper a unique colour and texture. Colour varies with the type of food consumed: Coconut, Kitul or Jak. Texture depends on whether the Elephant is able to chew the food or not. Fully digested fibre gives the paper a smooth finish while half digested fibre makes the paper coarser. Once Upon A Yum Yumeee

Penang is basically a foodie haven. You see food here food there.. and food is delicious everywhere. Food is also quite affordable and you get quite a good deal.

My memories of Penang has always been laksa, beach, rojak buah, beach, nasi kandar, beach, sotong goreng, beach, fried kuey teow, beach, popiah, beach, coconut, beach *LOL* The beach is a big draw.

Let us share with you what we've achieved on this trip.

We stopped by the pier to buy some coconut juice and i chatted up a local and asked her about nasi kandar. She mentioned Pelita at Market Street. But with our navigating skills, we both ended up here.

Kassim Mustafa for nasi kandar. Nasi Kandar was very delicious here. We were famished. When i looked at the rows of dishes.. i wanted to take everything. The glutton that is me. But i settled for fried chicken and crabs. Yummieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Sorry. Forgot to take pics of the food as my fingers dug into the plate of rice and both of us never stopped eating till we burped. I can still recall the scent from my fingers of the nasi kandar... bliss. I was smelling my fingers all the way back to the hotel :D

We had the yumyums below for dinner at the food court in Tanjong Bungah. Its not a hoity toity place and the food was great. Even the drinks and juices were nice.

This is prawn mee or "mee udang" as the locals call it. The sauce is berry berry delicious. Stormy tells me that there's a stall in Sungai Dua in Butterworth. Its famous for mee udang. And the prawns are very fresh.

This was delicious too. And the prawns are cooked just right. Not overcooked and hard.

This is fried mee udang. Just as delicious... Aiyaa.. now my tummy is growling like a bear.

Satay. We took this a bit too late. Already finished half of it.. hehehhehee

If Stormy didn't take pictures of the food, i won't have any pictures of food to show you. *LOL* I am such a glutton. The minute i see food, i dug in.

And we had fried kuey teow too. Delicious too and three :)

In the morning i ran across the road to buy nasi lemak from the stall in front of Holiday Inn. The stalls sells a very delicious prepacked nasi lemak for RM1.20 a pack. It has a big prawn inside the pack of nasi lemak. Only in Penang will you get a big mother of a prawn in a RM1.20 pack of nasi lemak. And some fresh fried hot chicken :) We just couldn't stop eating.. hahaha

I hope i have maybe minutely tantalize you with all this food to go to Penang :) I am sure one of my sisters will kick me soon for posting all this food pictures and make her salivate and miss Malaysian food more. Its my diabolical plan to pester her home soon with my godson.

This trip is a bit short because i didn't find the Blue House yet. Let's go again Stormy :) Soon ya!

Billa Billa Bing

Stormy and Anny went for a holiday and all they got me was this. Cool eh?

Its a Billabong wannabe cap. It reads Billabing.. or was it Billabang... i can't spell very well. I am just a doggie. But i am sure it was not a Bong *woof*

I would rather prefer treats instead of a Billa wannabe cap. So next time you scoot off anywhere without me, you both better bring me back some deelicious treats... or i'll i'll err.. urmm.. i'll i'll... urmm...

But i kinda like this Billa Billa... it fits pretty well. Don't ya think so?

Holiday Inn and GPS

When we go for holidays, we always do our hotel bookings online in advance. Usually we get better deals if we book online. But this trip was kind of unplanned. Sometimes when we plan too much, Murphy's Law will step in. *LOL*

We wanted to stay at Lone Pine but it was under refurbishment till 2010. And so we thought... its Thursday... there's so many hotels in Penang... we should be able to get rooms easily. With the stopover in Kuala Kangsar to eat and click click click of pictures... we rolled into Penang when it was almost dusk. Both of us are clueless of Penang roads but the road signs were not all that bad.

Stormy decided to test out the GPS on his blackberry to find Tanjong Bungah.. hehehhehehe.. After a long while, we got an image on the GPS that says... "You Are Here" with a dot... and the rest of the screen was white. We were both laughing like idiots... and kept asking the blackberry.. so where are we?? But it never answered us.

We took a wrong turn and ended up in town. While catching some sights, we ended up at Komtar and said hi to Lim Guan Eng. We even thought about calling Lim Guan Eng and ask him how to reach Tanjong Bungah.. *LOL* Not that we know Lim Guan Eng personally.

The GPS was still a white screen... and with the "You Are Here".. hehhehehehee

We finally found the road to Batu Feringgi and was going uphill and i suddenly recalled some places i've been to before when i was a kid. We used to go to Penang quite often for holidays when i was little. We always go for the laksa. It is delicious.

While on Batu Feringgi the GPS suddenly picked up the map and now we are in business. I was driving while Stormy was navigating.. hehehhee.. with the clueless GPS. We were kind of looking for hotels in the dark... and suddenly Stormy said.. Holiday Inn.. let's stay at Holiday Inn. The GPS states that we've already passed Holiday Inn... and the road is quite windy and going uphill to turn around. So we said.. nevermind... we'll find another hotel. Then he said.. hey.. we passed Holiday Inn again. And we were both stumped. hehehhehe

We moved on... and reached a row of hotels. We tried Shangri-La but it was wayyyyyyy over our budget.. hahhahahahaa... we quietly came out. Then we passed The Ship and Eden... and then i saw Park Royal's signboard. So we stopped and asked. We finally booked a room for a night. We thought maybe we'll find another hotel tomorrow. The room faces the road but it was okay. The beachfront rooms were all pre-booked (always book you rooms online). And so we went into the room... and open the curtains to check out the sights. Guess what greeted us.

Holiday Inn blinking and grinning at us from across the road... *LOL* Both of us were wondering how many Holiday Inn's are there in Penang. We had a good laugh over the blinking Holiday Inn from across the road. It was like mocking us. Dang!

We decided to run across and check if they have any rooms available for the next night. And so.. after dinner... we walked across to Holiday Inn and asked at the reception. The girl said they are fully booked for tomorrow and so we said thank you and left. When we were walking out, i was telling Stormy... how come the girl is wearing the same uniform as the hotel we were staying in.

When we walked out and looked at the hotel we were staying at... we have Holiday Inn blinking and mocking us again. We felt like total idiots.. hahhahahahaha.. we didn't even know we were staying at Holiday Inn. All along i thought that we drove into Park Royal. Park Royal is beside Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn have 2 wings. One is on the other side of the road and is connected by an overhead bridge. *phew*

What a day. But it was hilariously funny. Guess we were destined to stay at Holiday Inn. So we booked another night... but the reception told us that they MIGHT be fully booked tomorrow and asked us to check again tomorrow.. *LOL*

We did get another night at Holiday Inn the next day (they even send us a big platter of fruits)... but we had to move to another room... which was nicer.. and we have another extra 2 kiddies bed... with a playstation too. Too bad the kids were not with us.

Moral of the story is... Always book in advance... and find out where the hotel is. Secondly, don't trust GPS.. *LOL* But all said and done, it was fun and funny and no one got angry. That is the thing with Stormy. Stormy hardly gets mad in situations like this. He just laughs it all off. These are my very precious memories with Stormy. Just in case i lose my memory one day, i can still find it all here.

It Has To Be Love

A love story unfolds itself before us while we were at Gurney Drive, Penang.

These two folks were just taking in the air while waiting for their friends to finish taking in the sights. The lady was in the car waving to her love. They were chatting and smiling and the lady kept waving to him. And both will smile. The lady looks frail and just sat in the car but she had on a most beautiful smile and she looked happy each time she waved to the man.

I bet they have a great love story to share if i dared to ask. Stormy asked me to take a picture of the lovely couple because we will never see them again. Its always great to see old folks still so much in love. It makes us have more faith in love. Cos love will always find its way home.

Gurney Drive is a pretty cool nice place to just sit and enjoy the cool air. It is lined with Casuarina trees all along the drive. Its romantic and cool. Its a very popular seafront tourist destination.

Loads of hawker stalls lined the first part of Gurney Drive and in the evenings, you'll be spoilt for choice on what to eat. You will go crazy because you really want to eat everything you see there. Happened to me before and i just went bazooka when i open my eyes wide with saliva almost dripping off my silly mouth when i saw all the food laid in front of me.. *LOL* I am capable of drooling unconciously.

A Spot Of London

While we were whizzing about in Kuala Kangsar in Malaysia, we found a spot of London. The famous London telephone booth.

Actually we do see a few of these red telephone booths in Malaysia of late. I wonder who has been bringing these telephone booths in and confusing a lot of tourists... hehehhehee

One minute you think that you are in London and the next.. urmm... you are in Kuala Kangsar :) Pretty cool ya! Its like a teleporting machine.. hehhehehe.. What's more confusing is.. there's Kuala Kangsar and London written on the box.

Twas A Bright And Stormy Day...

It was a bright bright day when Stormy came by and whisked me away :) Off we went in the silver speed of a ride.. grinning like little kids. Stormy was home for a while and finally made it here.

We did a stopover in Kuala Kangsar and had one of the best salted fish fried rice and mee goreng.. and and tom yam too by the riverbank. It was simply deelicious. Small towns always offer some of the best simple food.

Folks in Kuala Kangsar were smiling generously when i aim the camera at them... they grin broadly when i simply click away. When i went to buy some paus that Kuala Kangsar is famous for... the girl in the kitchen just whispered "abis" to me... hehhehee.. I find it so amusing. She practically whispered softly. Such soft spoken women.

We went on our way and stopover at a reststop to relive ourselves. It is one of the more beautiful and pleasant stops. Because what greeted us was the row of pink and white flower trees when we drove into the reststop. Stormy said.. take picture take picture.. hehhehee.. I didn't because i really had to pee. It was like a Sakura feeling. Kinda like cherry blossoms. But they are not cherry blossoms. It was just a very beautiful place. I just found out that the trees are called Tabebuia Rosea or Pink Trumpets.

Off we went on our way to Penang. I finally sank my feet into the beach again *smile*

A Spot of Yellow

Hello all :) I am finally back from my roadtrip. Kinda got extended in a way :D

We were just in Kuala Lumpur to visit my sisters and Piper. When i am in KL, i usually forget about computers and just like to lie low and be lazy. Am even more tired than i was last friday. *lol* Guess its the "age thingy".

My knees are kinda giving up on me. My whole body is aching from god knows what i have been doing.. hahhahahahaa.. All i actually did was walk some dogs. Three to be exact :)

Kuning was here last week. Sis was dog-sitting for her friend. She was with her for a whole week. Kuning makes her happy. A goldie with their magical smile and their ever happy face just lights u up like a lightbulb.

I am happy to see her smile and am less stressed when Kuning is here. Even though walking this mighty strong girl is a feat in itself. hahahhahahahaa

From this last weekend i spent with Kuning... i found out that Goldies...

1) are with lotta energy... just watch the movie Marley and Me and you'll see Kuning. She's almost like Marley.. hahhahahahaha

2) they can walk very very far... and never seem to tire

3) they love to drink every other puddle of water or any water they can find on the ground

4) they pee quite a bit considering the water they lap up everywhere

5) they love to chase birds.. hahahhaha.. they are so excited when they see birds.. so hold on to them when you walk them

6) whether they are female or male, they still love to hump our legs.. hahhahahahaa
(the guy at the grooming shop was saying.. hey.. ur dog is hamsap**... then i said.. err.. she's a female.. then he went.. izit??? he even bend down to look.. hahhahaha.. then he was scratching his head and went.. why was she humping my legs.. *LOL*)
**hamsap means itchy or pervert in Cantonese (usually refers to a male)

7) dogs ONLY listen to their owners commands and will just conveniently forget all the commands that they have learnt when they are with strangers

8) goldies poo only once each time u take them for a walk.. but be ready for a big big poo.. hahhahahaaa don't forget to bring the scoop

9) if you have weak shoulders, don't even try to walk a goldie who is still at its puppy years... they just drag u everywhere

10) goldies love grass... they love grass as much as they love water

11) goldies love to dig too.. hahahhahaha.. i shud get a goldie to help me dig holes on the ground if i want to plant anything :D

i think Goldies are just basically very happy dogs. They love to please and they love you to bits. They love to lick your face too. Their saliva is a lot too.. hahhahahahaa..

I love this Kuning even though she seems unruly and uncontrollable like Marley. But she's still just a puppy. She has grown quite a bit since i saw her in February. And best of all, she made Dom smiled. I finally manage to capture the picture that i was looking for.
